Medical Views: Living Donor Transplant Data

In this section, we have tried to provide those thinking about living donor transplants -- and those considering being living donors -- information that provides some useful perspective on this growing phenomenon.

The data is presented in two sections.

RECIPIENTS is an effort to help you compare the success rate of living donor transplants to the success rate for cadaver transplants.

Unfortunately, data is not yet available on the relatively recent phenomenon of living donor adult-to-adult liver transplants. But this section provides data for the past 10 years on:

  • Living Donor Kidney Recipients: Patient Survival Rates
  • Living Donor Kidney Recipients: Transplanted Kidney Survival Rates

DONORS is an effort to help you see the evolving relationship of living donors to the recipients of living donor transplants. This section provides information separately on living kidney donors and living liver donors.

Four charts provide data for the past 10 years on:

  • Living Donor Kidney Transplants: Relationship of Donor to Recipient
  • Living Donor Kidney Transplants: Age of Donor
  • Living Donor Liver Transplants: Relationship of Donor to Recipient
  • Living Donor Liver Transplants: Age of Donor

The data presented in this section is drawn from tables prepared by the United Network on Organ Sharing, which gathers this information as part of a contract awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. For those desiring other data on living donors and living donor transplants, we would suggest you visit the UNOS web site at www.unos.org.
