New Film, "No Greater Love," Promotes Donation, Transplantation

Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson unveiled a new one-hour documentary film, "No Greater Love," which was produced to help create awareness of the need for increased organ donation.

While almost 6,000 families each year now donate the organs of loved ones at the time of their deaths, almost 80,000 Americans are now waiting for transplants.

The film, narrated by actress Angela Lansbury, features the story of Brian Hinsley, a fireman who waited for a liver transplant for nearly two years. His life was saved when he received the gift of life: a new, healthy liver. With the transplant, Hinsley has returned from near death to a productive life as a fireman.

"Thousands of other Americans nationwide are still waiting for that precious lifesaving gift," Thompson said. "And, that is precisely the reason we produced this program: to show how one person can make a difference in many lives by deciding to become a donor. We need to fully recognize the value of the gift that is made by donors and their families, and we need to bring about more donation to save more lives."
