Subject of Living-Donor Lung Transplant Documentary Dies

A 33-year-old woman who in November 2000 received a lung transplant in which her sister and a friend were living donors has died in Minneapolis of cystic fibrosis.

Kimberly Miles of Black River Falls, WI, one of a small number of people to receive a living-donor lung transplant in which a donor was not a blood relative, had her unusual transplant surgery described in a front-page article in The New York Times in 2001.

The operations also were the subject of a Science Times television program, "A Gift of Life," first shown on June 26, 2001, on the National Geographic Channel.
