Billy Gray Anderson,
50, president and chief executive officer of the LifeNet organ-procurement
agency and tissue bank in Virginia Beach, VA, was killed in a
single-car crash in North Carolina.
Anderson spent
nearly all of his adult life in organ procurement, starting at
the Bowman Gray School of Medicine's Department of Surgery in
North Carolina, and moving to Norfolk, VA, in 1976 where he became
department head of the Eastern Virginia Transplant Program at
Norfolk General Hospital.
In 1980, he
became director of the Hampton Roads division of the Virginia
Organ Procurement Program, and two years later, he became executive
director of the Virginia Tissue Bank, which is now LifeNet.
