4-Year-Old Boy Dies After Fifth Liver Transplant

A 4-year-old boy, who is believed to be the youngest child to ever undergo five liver transplants, has died two days after his final transplant at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, according to family members.

Nathan Wallace of Chandler, AZ was born with biliary atresia, a life-threatening disorder of the liver and bile ducts that occurs in newborns.

The boy received his first transplant, a partial liver transplant from one of his parents, at the age of 7 months. That transplant failed, as did each of the subsequent transplants, for different reasons.
