Two sisters
with the same genetic disease received simultaneous kidney transplants
at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York
City after a donor turned out to be a perfect match for both.
Diane Faso,
38, of Bayville, NJ, and Christine Faso, 28, of Staten Island,
NY, who both have Alport's Syndrome, had both been on dialysis
and were on the transplant waiting list.
Diane Faso
had previously received a kidney transplant that her body rejected,
and doctors discovered that Christine Faso also had Alport's Syndrome
when she volunteered to be a living kidney donor to her older
sister.
Both sisters
were reported doing well following the surgeries.
