TRIO Shuts Washington Office, But Denies It Is Ceasing Operations

Transplant Recipients International Organization (TRIO) has closed its national office in Washington, DC, but has denied a published report that it is ceasing operations as of May 31st.

In a statement posted on its web site, TRIO said it has "only temporarily closed our office in Washington" even though it has terminated the contract of Executive Director Lisa Kory.

"In an effort to streamline the organization, TRIO is realigning the operations of the national headquarters," the organization said. During this "process of reorganization," TRIO said, "volunteer members of the Board of Directors and individual members are handling the day-to-day operations of TRIO."

The strength of TRIO, one of the larger transplant patient support groups, has always been with some of its active local chapters, a number of which have been less than enthusiastic about some of the activities of the Washington office in recent years.

The closing of the National Office is not expected to affect local chapters, TRIO sources said.
