Dr. James A. Schulak of Case Western Reserve Tapped to Be ASTS President-Elect

 

Dr. James A. Schulak, Director of Transplantation at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, has been tapped by the Nominating Committee of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons to be the society's president-elect.

Schulak, who currently serves on the ASTS Council, the group's board of directors, is expected to be elected to the position without opposition at the society's annual business meeting Monday.

He would serve as president of ASTS from May 2002 to May 2003, following the term of Dr. Marc I. Lorber of Yale, who is in line to be elected president at Monday's meeting.

Schulak has served as a member of the UNOS Membership and Professional Standards Committee and the Liver and Intestinal Organ Transplantation Committee, where he served on the Regional Review Board Subcommittee.

Schulak has served as medical director of LifeBanc, the Organ Procurement Organization serving the Cleveland area, is a member of its Board of Directors. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.
