Brenda Butler
Hamlett did, who received a heart transplant in 1993 and subsequently
became community development coordinator for the New England Organ
Bank, died of heart failure in Brigham and Women's Hospital in
Boston.
Mrs. Hamlett,
53, who was president of the American Association of Minority
Transplant Professionals, in 2000 received a $100,000 grant from
the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to fund her community outreach
work in support of organ and tissue donation.
Mrs. Hamlett,
who spoke widely to school and business groups, told the Boston
Globe in a 1998 interview: "I don't have any fears about living.
I just hope with this second chance, that I continue to make a
difference in someone's life, that someone's life is saved."
