Argentine Man Gets Second Heart in Rare Transplant

An Argentine man was reported progressing favorably after having a second heart implanted in a rare transplant surgery, according to news reports from Argentina.

Jose Angel Venditti, 44, underwent the unusual transplant surgery in the Italian Hospital in the Argentine province of Mendoza. Doctors said only 16 similar surgeries have been performed previously, all in Europe.

Venditti's own heart still works partially, pumping blood through the lungs, the physicians said. The new donated heart now pumps blood through the rest of his body.
