71-Year-Old Woman Becomes Living Kidney Donor in China

A 71-year old woman in China has become one of the world's oldest living kidney transplant donors, successfully donating a kidney to her daughter, according to the Chinese media.

Xia Miao donated her kidney after the organs of four of her other children were found to be incompatible with her 33-year old daughter Su Hongmei, according to the Beijing Morning Post.

Doctors in the Gaozhou City in southern Guangdong province decided that Xia was in good enough health to undergo the six-hour donor operation, the report said.

The papers said the transplanted kidney was now functioning normally, and that mother and daughter would be discharged from the hospital soon.
