2 Washington Post Reporters in Living-Donor Kidney Transplant

The spreading phenomenon of unrelated living kidney donations has now reached The Washington Post newsroom.

Financial reporter Marthy McNeil Hamilton, 55, has become the donor of a kidney to automotive columnist Warren Brown, 53.

The Post, in a column that appeared on Sunday, said that while the newspaper has written a number of times about living-donor transplants, the decision of one reporter to donate a kidney to another has become the talk of the newsroom.

"There is a sense of amazement at the depth of generosity," said Jill Dutt, The Post's assistant managing editor for financial news.

The transplant took place at Georgetown University, and Brown and Hamilton -- who both joined The Post more than 20 years ago -- were reported doing well after the surgery.
