Kurt Masur, music
director of the New York Philharmonic, was reported doing well
following a kidney transplant in Germany, the hospital said.
The 74-year-old
conductor suffered no complications during the operation, which
was performed at the University Clinic in Leipzig. The kidney
donor was a nephew, family members said.
Masur's final
season as the Philharmonic's musical director began Sept. 20 with
a televised performance of Brahms' "German Requiem"
in memory of the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
He is scheduled
to return to the Philharmonic on Feb. 7 for a performance of Wagner's
"Tristan and Isolde."
